There was a version of me who would have looked at this crate and immediately gone looking for a hammer.

She would have figured it out. Pulled it apart. Probably hurt a finger somewhere along the way and still felt ridiculously pleased with herself afterwards.

This has now been standing in the middle of my kitchen for TWO DAYS because apparently I have entered an era where I know perfectly well that I can do hard, rough, inconvenient things… I just no longer understand why I should have to. 😭😂

The mixer with ten kilograms of “your business is growing girl” — trapped behind a few pieces of wood because the woman who bought it has suddenly developed very strong feelings about rough manual labour.

I used to be such a DIY, I’ll-figure-it-out-myself woman. Does that mean I wore the pants 💍 🫪😳🤭

Because pparently now? I’m in my soft-soft-softness era. No manicure. No evidence to support the lifestyle. Just vibes, boundaries and a stand mixer still in captivity. 😂

Lemme get the hammer 🔨 ….. I think I can do that now after this little rant🤦🏽‍♀️

When your skin is already struggling, being told to “use something gentle” can feel almost meaningless. Gentle how? What is being cleansed away? What is being put back? What happens after cleansing, when that skin still has to hold onto water, protect itself and somehow function while already feeling dry, reactive or uncomfortable?

That question sits behind so much of the way I think about the Cellular Recovery range.

I wasn’t interested in creating products that simply sounded gentle on a label. I wanted the routine itself to make sense for skin that needs less disruption and more support — cleansing without that stripped feeling, restoring hydration, then following with the oils and emollients that help reduce moisture loss and leave the skin feeling protected and comfortable.

And perhaps that is the distinction I keep coming back to: “gentle” describes what a product doesn’t do. Barrier support asks what it actually does for the skin.

This is why I spend so much time thinking about the whole ritual rather than one impressive ingredient in isolation. Because when the barrier is already compromised, the conversation has to go further than gentle.

I think SILK & CROWN has officially become too big to live inside my head. 😂

Not because she is suddenly some enormous operation, but because there are now enough products, orders, scent combinations, gifts and formulations moving around that I can no longer trust myself to simply remember where everything belongs.

I do keep records on my laptop, but I also know myself. A spreadsheet can be beautifully organised and still disappear from my consciousness the minute I close it. When I write something down by hand, I remember it differently. I can almost see where it lives on the page.

So I have started giving each of these black notebooks a job. One holds my formulations, one holds the scent profiles I create, another records every order and the complimentary gifts that went with it, and now one will become my batch book—the physical trail of what I made, when I made it and how much was produced.

So although this looks like a little clip of me working on a serum, it is really the beginning of documenting SILK & CROWN with far more intention.

And I must admit, there is something deeply satisfying about seeing the finished serum at the end of a page that began with nothing more glamorous than distilled H₂O.

I literally don’t even have a point to this post other than I’m pretending that you’re in my kitchen with me and we are having a chat and you curiously asked me: “Gina how do you come up with all the smells you mix for your butter….?”
