Healing the Brain with Light: The Science of Photobiomodulation for Concussion and Head Injuries | Dr. Jill Carnahan, MD 02/28/2026

I work often with individuals who have had concussions and TBIs. While craniosacral therapy and myofascial release can be very helpful, brain injuries often require a multi-provider approach, including targeted treatments like those described in this article. Have you or a loved one dealt with this? I would love to hear about your experience, if you care to share. 💛🧠

Oh, the joy of in-home sessions!

Although the office is peaceful, there’s really nothing like the comfort of your own home.

Take this sweet family, for example. I’ve seen them in the office multiple times. Their 2-year-old was always hesitant to engage unless she was in mom’s arms (and even then, she wasn’t happily engaged- so we never pushed it). So when they booked an in-home session for their newborn, I fully expected to spend most of the time with baby and older brother.

But when I arrived, the 2-year-old greeted me at the door and much to my surprise, said “I go first!” She let me work with her for a solid half hour. 🤩

In my opinion, in-home appointments can be so effective because children feel safe, more in control, and are in the comfort of their own space.

💛

If you want to schedule an in-home appointment for your family, please reach out to me directly. I schedule these on my non-office days, so they’re not able to be booked online.

But I am here to walk with you.

To hold space.

To honor the wisdom woven into your body by the One who made it.

I’m a resource for healing-

Not the source.

A conduit, not the cure.

The hands, not the Healer.

Because true healing comes from God alone-

The Great Physician,

The One who knows every fiber, every tension, every tear.

My role is to follow His lead.

To listen with my hands.

To discern where the body is bracing

and where the Spirit is already moving.

Sometimes that looks like stillness.

Sometimes release.

Sometimes a breath, a tear, or a sacred shift.

But always- it’s His work.

I’m just here to serve it well.

I don’t always remember to take before/after photos, but I’m so glad I did for this sweet little one.

He was referred by an IBCLC for general fussiness, feeding and burping challenges, and noticeable tension—especially on his left side (check out that curve in the first photo). Mom said he hated being on his back and would usually cry and roll to the left. If placed on his belly, he would try to bring his knees forward into a flexed position. Those little hips were tight!

After our first session, she told me he was “a different baby” that afternoon - always the best kind of feedback! (Btw parents, if you ever question whether or not to reach out with feedback- always do! I very much appreciate it!)

The second photo was taken during their follow-up visit, mid-session. He had fallen asleep on his own, without any shhh-ing or bouncing. 🥹 You can see how much more relaxed he is: head turned the other way, hips not stuck in flexion, curve gone, and his hands and feet more soft and loose.

At every visit, I do my best to show caregivers how to support their baby’s progress at home—because they’re the ones with baby the most. I can help get things started, but their daily love, touch and presence make the biggest difference! 💛

Morning sunlight is SO important for our health! ☀️

Demyelination blog #5 shows how the exacerbation of mouth breathing’s hypoxia and NO deficiency disrupts microtubule function by reducing UPEs, impairing CSF waveguiding, and desynchronizing wave function collapses. If the light stimulus causing hypoxia is strong enough or has a long enough duration, it always leads to cognitive decline and a variation of myelin-based neurodegeneration.

This “electrical scar” of disease is a quantum failure, and it mirrors GOE-era oxygen stress, unseen by centralized medicine. Restoring AM sunlight, restores nasal breathing, NO function, OPC and Schwann cell alignment with circadian biology, and applies the optimal DDW stoichiometry of the IMM to re-engineer this system, supporting myelination, microtubule coherence, and improve consciousness in any state, but especially the neurodegenerative state where cognitive haze is the craze in the modern technocracy due to blue light exposure.

The beach reminds me of Psalm 103:12- about how God forgets our sins and casts them as far as the east is from the west.

I hope today (and every day), you remember the GIFT of grace. Our bodies are a wonderful example of grace. We can mistreat them for years, intentionally or unintentionally, through foods, substances, environments, unhealthy relationships, etc. and yet- our body is constantly working towards homeostasis. It communicates to us through symptoms and sensations, and even if we choose to ignore them, our body will continue to try to get our attention in one way or another.

If and when we finally decide to address whatever needs addressing, and we begin to give our body what it needs, the rate of healing can be exponentially faster than the rate at which decline happened. That, in my opinion, is a great example of grace. 💛

Psalm 103:11-12
For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear (respect) him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.

In business and in life, your goals and dreams don’t have to make sense to anyone else. You don’t owe anyone an explanation. Does it align with your beliefs and values (& your immediate family, if applicable) and the life you are trying to create? If so, go for it.

When I was in massage school, we were asked what we wanted to do after graduation. I said I wanted to work with babies and kids (and adults too, if I could make that work). I was told in a nice way that there wasn’t really a market for that and even if there was, I should consider the ethical implications of working with a population that couldn’t provide consent or give quality feedback. (Anyone who has worked with children knows how clearly they can communicate and provide feedback, even if they’re not speaking!)

I had also heard that it would be challenging to run a massage business that wasn’t open at least sometime for evening and weekend appointments. (But my plan was to only work part time, during the hours my kids were in school- which definitely did not include nights or weekends.)

All of that said, in the past 2 years, there have only been 2 (!!) days that I’ve been scheduled to work where I had no appointments on the schedule. TWO DAYS. 🙏

Looking back, I’m thankful I let those comments in massage school flow in one ear and out the other. I had a goal, I knew what I wanted and *why* (IMO, a key component), and I trusted that the right doors would open at the right time. And thank God they did, because marketing and social media are not my strong suit. You know that saying about how God factors in your stupidity when He calls you to do something? Yea, I believe that. 😆

It’s true. And you’ve heard me say it over and over AND…
Put the work into YOU! 🌈 Have a sick kid? Marriage not the best? Work stressing you out? It all starts with your energy and vibration🌟 Because others vibrate at your frequency when they are around you, work on YOURSELF and watch the rest improve! It’s a beautiful thing! 🌷🪺☀️
