Barrel Racing 9/9 | Tie-Down Roping 9/8

Last week, the two bubbles were moving in opposite directions.

This week, they switched. 👀

For The Women's Professional Rodeo Association Barrel Racing, the No. 8 gap tightened.

Last week, Megan McLeod-Sprague held No. 8 with 822.38 points, 38.87 ahead of Katelyn Scott.

Now McLeod-Sprague is still No. 8 at 839.63, but Andrea Bruch Busby has moved into No. 9 with 817.50.

➡️ Current gap: 22.13 points ⬅️

That means the Barrel Racing bubble tightened by 16.74 points in one week.

Busby made the biggest move around the line:

➡️ +65.00 points
➡️ No. 10 → No. 9
➡️ From 69.88 points out last week to just 22.13 out now.

At a 500-point-base Playoff Series rodeo, 8th place pays 22.5 points.

So if the line stayed exactly where it is today, Busby would need roughly an 8th-place finish at that tier to erase the current deficit.

That is gap math — NOT a qualification prediction. The cutoff can keep moving.

Meanwhile, PRCA ProRodeo Tie-Down Roping went the other direction.

Last week:

8️⃣ John Douch — 863.25
9️⃣ Tyler Calhoun — 863.19

🚨 Gap: 0.06 points

Now John Douch has added 49 points and moved from No. 8 to No. 7.

That puts Ty Harris on the current cut line at 908.25, with Tyler Calhoun still No. 9 at 863.19.

➡️ New gap: 45.06 points ⬅️

So in one week:

Barrel Racing:
38.87 → 22.13

Tie-Down Roping:
0.06 → 45.06

Cole Clemons also made a major move in Tie-Down, adding 97.50 points and climbing from No. 11 to No. 10.

At a 500-point-base rodeo, 4th pays 49 points while 5th pays 41.5 — meaning Calhoun would need roughly 4th or better to erase today’s 45.06-point deficit if the cutoff did not move.

That’s the Bubble Watch in two numbers:

22.13 and 45.06.

One bubble tightened.
The other finally got some breathing room.

And now comes the biggest wrinkle yet: Puyallup.

The Top 4 there qualify automatically for Sioux Falls. After that, those automatic qualifiers come out of the standings calculation and the next eight qualify off the Sept. 21 Playoff Series cutoff.

Two events. Two completely different bubble stories. 👀

Barrel Racing got more breathing room.
Tie-Down Roping turned into a dead heat.

In Barrel Racing, the No. 8 line widened dramatically in one week.

Last week, Kassie Mowry sat No. 8 with 746.13 points, just 8.13 points ahead of Andrea Bruch Busby.

Now, Megan McLeod-Sprague holds No. 8 with 822.38, while Katelyn Scott is first out at 783.51.

➡️That puts the current gap at: 38.87 points.⬅️

So the Barrel Racing bubble is now 30.74 points wider than it was one week ago.

McLeod-Sprague was also one of the biggest movers around the line, adding 111.25 points and jumping from 11th to 8th.

At a 500-point-base Playoff Series rodeo, 5th place pays 41.5 points and 6th pays 34.

So if the line stayed exactly where it is today, Scott would need roughly a 5th-place finish at that points tier to erase the deficit.

Please note: That is gap math and is NOT a qualification prediction because everyone around her can keep adding points too.

Meanwhile, Tie-Down Roping went the exact opposite direction.

The biggest weekly gain belonged to Riley Webb, who added 225 points, moved from 1,315 to 1,540, and jumped Joel Braden Harris for the series lead.

Closer to the Sioux Falls bubble, Ty Harris added 191.75 points and moved from 10th to 7th, while Haven Meged climbed from 8th to 5th. And all that movement crushed the gap at No. 8.

On Aug. 17, Haven Meged held eighth with 809.50, while Cole Clemons was first out at 731.25.

Gap: 78.25 points

By Aug. 24, John Douch held No. 8 with 863.25 points and Tyler Calhoun sat No. 9 with: 863.19 points.

🚨The difference? 0.06 points. 😱 Yes, you read that right — six HUNDREDTHS of a point.🚨

So in one week: Barrel Racing: 8th-to-9th gap
8.13 → 38.87 and Tie-Down Roping: 8th-to-9th gap 78.25 → 0.06

One line opened up. The other virtually disappeared.

And with Puyallup still ahead, the battle around Nos. 8–12 matters more than ever on the road to Sioux Falls.
