Meet our intern, Bo Demming!

Bo is a Bachelor of Social Work student at Cleveland State University and is completing a macro-focused field placement with NASW Ohio. He is also a member of the NASW Ohio Region 3 Leadership Team and Advocacy Task Force.

His professional interests include policy, advocacy, and advancing equitable behavioral health initiatives.

New NASW Resource: Artificial Intelligence and Clinical Social Work- As artificial intelligence becomes increasingly common in clinical practice, social workers are navigating important questions about how these tools can be used responsibly and ethically. Nationally NASW has released a new Artificial Intelligence: Resources and Information for Clinical Social Workers guide covering how AI is currently being used in practice, ethical and legal considerations such as privacy, confidentiality, informed consent and HIPAA compliance, limitations and potential bias, and resources for continued learning. The guide emphasizes that AI cannot replace clinical judgment and encourages social workers to continue building their knowledge as technology and regulations evolve. Meet our intern, Aaron Thomas!

Aaron is an MSW student at The Ohio State University and is completing his field placement with NASW Ohio. Aaron served as the graduate student member of the NASW Ohio Board of Directors, completing his term on June 30. His involvement with the chapter has given him the opportunity to connect with and learn from social workers across the state.

Aaron initially pursued social work with the goal of supporting adolescents through talk therapy, but his experience with NASW Ohio has also sparked a passion for advocacy. He now hopes to incorporate advocacy for youth and families into his future career.

Outside of school and work, Aaron enjoys exploring new and classic films at the Gateway Film Center, visiting coffee shops, going to the gym, and hiking in Columbus Metro Parks.

Meet our intern, Cyrus Horsley!

Cyrus is a senior at Ohio University’s Chillicothe campus, where he is pursuing a BSW along with a dual major in psychology. His interests in government, politics, and helping others ultimately led him to social work and a passion for creating change at the systems level.

Cyrus is especially interested in macro social work, political advocacy, and public policy. During his internship with NASW Ohio, he’ll have the opportunity to build on those interests while learning more about advocacy and the role social workers can play in shaping policy.

Meet our intern, Gadge Redman!

Gadge is a senior at The Ohio State University with interests in community program development, policy, environmentally sustainable social work, food insecurity, and organizational leadership.

His previous experience includes working with communities such as Franklinton to increase access to food through pantries and community events, as well as behavioral health work at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. He’s looking forward to using his internship with NASW Ohio to further explore his interests and develop his skills.
