π³βΎ WIBA Chicago Guide #9: Explore Beyond Downtown
Chicago is a city of neighborhoods, each with its own personality. If you have a few free hours during WIBA 2026, venture beyond the Loop and experience two local favorites.
πΏ Lincoln Park
Stroll through one of Chicago's most beautiful neighborhoods, explore the free Lincoln Park Zoo, enjoy scenic walking paths, and take in gorgeous views of Lake Michigan and the skyline. It's a peaceful escape that's perfect for recharging.
βΎ Wrigleyville
Looking for a livelier atmosphere? Head to Wrigleyville, home of the iconic Wrigley Field. Even if there's no Cubs game, the neighborhood is full of sports bars, local restaurants, outdoor patios, and classic Chicago energy.
Whether you're looking for a relaxing afternoon or a fun evening with colleagues, these neighborhoods offer a chance to experience Chicago like a local.
β¨ Sometimes the best conference memories are made exploring the city together.
Follow along as we wrap up our 10-stop WIBA Chicago Guide and get ready for WIBA 2026: Grounded in Science. Growing in Community.

In 2022, the WIBA Hall of Fame welcomed its second class β six women who built the science and practice of behavior analysis, often without the recognition they deserved.
Ellen Reese. Barbara Etzel. Beth Sulzer-Azaroff. Frances Horowitz. Julie Vargas. Gwendolyn Cartledge.
These women established the first behavior-analytic classroom programs and textbooks. They pioneered organizational behavior management, errorless teaching, and culturally responsive practice. They recruited and mentored the next generation when few others would. One was the first woman ever to serve as President of ABA. Another was the first African American woman promoted to full professor from within her university's ABA program. Another was born into behavior analysis β as B.F. Skinner's daughter β and went on to become legendary in her own right.
As the paper's conclusion puts it: they were there, advancing the science, training students, building programs, and advocating for equity and culturally responsive practice. Yet, like other pioneering women in our field, they were not always fully recognized and honored.
Through the WIBA Hall of Fame, we bring them into the foreground β and illustrate the legacy they've left as a gift and source of strength for all behavior analysts.

βοΈ Chicago, here I come!
Next week, I'll be heading to the 9th Annual Women in Behavior Analysis - WIBA Conference and I couldn't be more excited to reconnect with colleagues, meet new friends, and celebrate the incredible women helping shape the future of behavior analysis.
As both an SLP and BCBA, conferences like WIBA are a reminder of why continuing education, collaboration, and community matter so much. Every conversation, every presentation, and every new connection helps me bring fresh ideas and evidence-based practices back to the children, families, and professionals I serve through Dower & Associates.
If you're attending, I'd love to connect! Whether we've worked together before or have only interacted online, please stop and say hello. I'll be around throughout the conference and always enjoy meeting others who are passionate about communication, behavior analysis, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
See you in Chicago! ππΏ
