POV: Oluchi Tell Me More About the Summer Hair Care Workshop

Program Duration: 2 Weeks

What Your Child Will Learn:
1. Hair science basics — porosity, moisture, shrinkage, curl patterns (like the 3a–4c typing system)
2. Protective styles — braids, twists, buns, and why they help retain length
3. Product literacy — reading labels, avoiding harmful ingredients (sulfates, parabens), and DIY treatments
4. Scalp health and hygiene
5. Self-care routines kids can do independently
6. Confidence and identity — this is often a big component, helping girls embrace their natural texture in a culture that has historically favored straight hair

Cost of Workshop: The programme fee of ₦150,000 covers everything your daughter needs to participate fully — and she gets to take it all home with her:
✔ Dummy Head — to practise styling techniques at home after the programme
✔ Tool Kit — combs and brushes she will use throughout the workshop and keep
✔ Branded T-Shirt and Apron, Notebook and Pen — her official Muna & Luchi workshop gear
Everything is hers to keep.

By the end of the two weeks, she will have her own personal hair care kit and the confidence to use it.

This scene happened while I was prepping Muna's hair for a silk press. Chimdalu quickly went to the manniquin and began braiding its hair. It was not planned at all. One of my stylists called my attention to what was happening, and Chimdalu said "Mummy I am doing it, please video me". Then sure enough, I flipped my camera from filming Muna's silk press and focused on her.

This is not the first time something like this is happening at the salon. Most children come into the salon and immidiately gravitate towards those dummy heads. They want to perform the same hair care session that they see going on around. I take it as a sign, an opportunity to teach and guide them into something already calling out from within.

Send us a dm to enroll your child in our Summer Hair Care Workshop for kids. You will be glad you did.

Muna asked me for a silk press ever since she was sevrn.
My answer was always no.

I wasn't just worried about heat damage—I also didn't feel confident enough to do it in a way that protected her beautiful natural hair.

Now she's eleven, and for her graduation she showed me the hairstyle she wanted. I spent two weeks researching, finding the right tools, choosing a quality heat protectant, and learning everything I could about healthy heat styling.

The night before graduation, after a full school day, we stayed at the salon until midnight. To preserve the press, I wrapped it and covered it with a hair net and satin scarf. Then then in the morning, I went through the entire hair with a flat iron. I put the hair into the style, and used a curling iron to create the curls. Every minute was worth it. The silk press turned out beautifully, and those curls? The curling iron was the perfect finishing touch!

My gorgeous Muna. 💕
