A National Service personel at the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), Ebenezer Ghartey, has been charged with stealing GH¢308,300 through unauthorised Mobile Money transfers.

According to prosecutors, he transferred the money from the MTN merchant account of a DVLA Administrative Officer to his own Mobile Money account between March and May, 2026.

The Police say Mr. Ghartey used the money to buy a Hyundai Elantra, a Samsung 50-inch TV, furniture, an air conditioner, a washing machine, and other household items.

He also used part of the money to pay his rent and his sibling’s school fees. Mr. Ghartey pleaded not guilty and was granted GH¢100,000 bail. The case has been adjourned to August 4, 2026..

The Ghana Police Service has recovered GH¢140,000 and an AK-47 assault rifle following a robbery attack on a mobile money vendor at Lashibi in the Greater Accra Region.

In a press release signed by the Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Region, Chief Superintendent Juliana Obeng, the Police said the robbery occurred on Friday, July 3, 2026.

According to the statement, preliminary investigations indicate that the victim was attacked by two armed men on a motorbike while driving home from work with a bag containing GH¢140,000.
