After Sugar Hair Removal

Things to avoid for the first 24 hours after sugar hair removal:

· Perfumes

· Scented creams/lotions

· Deodorant if you had your underarms sugared

· Heat, such as baths/steam rooms

· Direct sunlight or tanning beds

· Perspiration. Let this be your excuse to skip going to the gym!

Exfoliation is the key to preventing ingrown hairs. Using a natural bristle body brush, exfoliating cloth or brush, or body scrub two to three times per week you’ll keep dead skin cells from trapping new hair growth under your skin.

The second step is to keep your skin healthy and moisturized. A good rule of thumb is, whenever your skin gets wet (after every shower or bath) moisturize with a natural lotion.

Slight irritation with redness and bumps is completely normal and should disappear within 24 hours.

Pre-Treatment: Things you can do before your Sugar Hair Removal treatment.

* Clients should come with skin as clean as possible.
* Men having the back should shower and wear a clean t-shirt to appointment.
* Brazilian clients should use facilities before to cleanse the area to be sugared. There is always moist wipes available in the treatment room.
* No working out, sunbathing, or tanning the day of treatment as the sweat harbors bacteria.
* No spray tanning or lotion the day of treatment.

Next information post will be entirely about post-treatment and what not to do after your Sugaring!

Before Your Sugar Appointment

Sugar paste is safe for all skin types, even the most sensitive! Since the sugar never adheres to live skin cells, only the dead cells will be removed acting as a gentle exfoliation, which is why we ask that you do not exfoliate your skin the day before or day of your service.

It is important to show up to your appointment with skin that is clean of all lotions, oils and makeup. These can coat the skin and the hair and act as a barrier, making it difficult to remove the hair.

For best results hair should be approximately ¼ inch. If hair is longer it should be trimmed with an electric trimmer prior to arriving for your appointment. Can be trimmed at appointment.

And again! Another option for EXFOLIATION! It is a key factor in preventing ingrown hairs!

When you are sugaring you should be exfoliating 3 to 4 times per week to prevent ingrown hairs. It is important to slough away the dead and toughened skin cells to allow weaker hairs to come through.

Some ideas for exfoliating are:
* An exfoliating glove
* Dry brushing
* Sugar Betty Sweet & Salty Scrub or Sugar Scrub
* Sugar Betty Deep Sea Salt Natural Soap

In this post, let's look at the Sugar Betty's Sugar Scrub!

SUGAR SCRUB is not just an exfoliator! A combination of ingredients your skin will love, with the addition of organic cane sugar, creates a moisturizing scrub that exfoliates and polishes, while replenishing moisture and condition to all skin types. For skin that is ooooooh, sooooo touchable!!

Dampen skin in a warm bath or shower. Massage SUGAR SCRUB on skin to loosen dead skin cells and lift them away from the surface of the skin. Residual sugar and exfoliated skin cells rinse away, leaving a trace of moisturizers and conditioners over fresh, silky smooth skin. Follow with SUGAR BALM to seal and protect.

RE-HYDRATION! Another key factor in preventing ingrown hairs!

Once the dead skin cells have been removed with EXFOLIATION the new cells need to be kept soft. SUGAR BALM used on the skin after a shower or bath will keep your skin looking soft, supple and moisturized.

SUGAR BALM is a creamy smooth lotion made from natural sources. Plant and tree derived oils, skin friendly botanical extracts and organic Shea and aloe. Cold pressed goodness of avocado, organic coconut, sunflower and pumpkin seed oils. These oils can improve skin's texture and rejuvenate, working in conjunction with botanicals. Comfrey has skin reconditioning qualities and elder extract that can calm skin conditions. Cucumber and mallow extract assist in reducing skin irritation, and organic aloe helps skin's flexibility and hydration. SUGAR BALM leaves skin feeling silky smooth and ooooh soooo touchable!

SWEET & SALTY SCRUB calms and relieves all types of skin allergies and conditions. With detoxifying and disinfectant properties, Mineral & Dead Sea salts purify the skin’s pores by driving out all of the gunk, including dead skin cells, dirt, pollution, stale sebum and germs that collect and form acne and pimples. The rich magnesium and bromide content help soothe skin while keeping away allergenic elements and microbes that cause negative skin reactions. Magnesium speeds up healing of skin tissue & soothes damaged skin. Bromide soothes skin, relieves muscle cramps, calms nerves, repairs skin cells & revitalizes dull complexion. Sulfur is a natural disinfectant, purifies skin & detoxifies the body. Potassium replenishes much needed moisture. Calcium balances sebum, enhances skin hydration, promotes cell renewal, prevents wrinkles & fine lines, and offers skin cancer protection.

Dampen skin in a warm bath or shower. Massage SWEET & SALTY SCRUB on skin to loosen dead skin cells and lift them away from the surface. Residual scrub and exfoliated skin cells will rinse away, leaving a trace of moisturizers and conditioners over silky smooth skin. Follow with SUGAR BALM to seal and protect.

INGROWN HAIRS!

An ingrown hair is the result of the hair not emerging from the follicle. It remains imbedded in the skin (usually causing irritation and inflammation). Some of the causes of ingrown hairs are:

* Skin suffering from lack of moisture
* Stiff thick hair
* Embedded oil in the hair follicles
* Build up of dead skin cells in the pore and on the surface of the skin (some are more prone to this)
* Course curly hair growing in a curved hair follicle
* Breakage that occurs during removal leaving little bits of hair in the follicles to become inflamed
* Wearing clothing that rubs on skin causing thicker skin
* Tight synthetic clothes that cut the hair during intense workouts
* Skin that is not sloughing off properly
* Improper shaving

Watch for upcoming posts for more info on treating and preventing ingrown hairs.
