Reminiscing about the early days at Quench Salon, when I was experimenting with the foiling techniques that eventually evolved into our signature Lived-In Look service that every stylist at Quench is now trained in.

Looking back, I’m realizing I hardly took any photos of my work back then… 😬

“Just a trim” vs. actually fixing the breakage ✂️

We can absolutely take just half an inch off your ends…
but if your hair has those see-through, hollow spots, a tiny trim usually won’t solve the problem.

When we’re trying to rebuild fullness, we look for where that transparency ends — because that is often the best place to create a stronger perimeter and help your hair grow back looking healthier, thicker, and more even.

So why do ends start to look hollow?

One of the biggest culprits: ponytail breakage.
Especially those thin elastics wrapped in fabric — they can quietly snap away at the same section of hair over and over.

Want more density but still need to wear your hair up?

Try this:
• add a little hair oil to the underside of your hair before putting it up
• swap tight elastics for a scrunchie if your hair will hold it
• use a claw clip when you can
• try an invisibobble for a gentler hold with less breakage

And yes — heat damage is very real too.

Always use hot tools on 100% dry hair, keep your heat lower whenever possible (around 300–350° is enough for most hair types), and do one slow, controlled pass instead of multiple quick ones. Less heat + less repetition = less breakage.
