Short answer? No. But let’s talk about why. Electrolysis works by targeting the hair follicle at the root, permanently destroying its ability to grow hair. Waxing, sugaring, threading, or tweezing removes the hair from the root - meaning there’s nothing left for the electrolysis probe to treat. Even worse, it disrupts the natural hair growth cycle, making it harder to target hairs in the optimal stage for treatment. This can slow your progress and require more sessions to reach permanent results.

When it comes to your upper lip, chin, and sideburns, the effects are even worse. Your body interprets repeated plucking or waxing as a sign that the hair isn’t strong enough - so it compensates by increasing blood supply to the follicle. More capillaries mean more blood flow, which carries more hormones that stimulate hair growth. The result? Thicker, stronger, coarser hair. So, if you’re tweezing or waxing facial hair, you’re actually encouraging it to grow back even more stubbornly.

But that’s not all. Repeatedly pulling on the follicle distorts its shape, causing hairs to grow back at odd angles - leading to ingrown hairs. Waxing and sugaring take this a step further by removing multiple hairs at once, often against the natural growth pattern. This increases the risk of distortion, ingrowns, and - you guessed it stronger, deeper, thicker hair, even in areas where it was once fine.
