Your work is part of the experience. But it’s not the whole experience.
Before I ever touch a client’s nails, there are standards happening behind the scenes.
The workspace is prepared.
The tools are properly processed.
Everything is ready before they sit down.
Clients may not understand every technical detail of what we do but they notice when a business feels professional, organized and intentional.
And over time, those little details become part of what they trust you for.
Beautiful nails matter.
But the way you run your business matters too. 🤍
A lot of structure problems start before the product is even applied.
If I notice the side of the nail needs correction, I don't try to hide it by adding more product.
I correct what needs to be corrected first, then build the structure from there.
Sometimes it's a very small adjustment but small details can completely change the final shape.
Good nail work isn't just knowing how to apply product.
It's knowing what you're looking at and what needs to be corrected. 🤍

Being fully booked used to feel like the goal.
A full calendar meant I was doing well, right?
But over time, I learned that being busy and building a healthy business are two very different things.
You can have clients back-to-back and still feel like you're constantly working just to keep up.
At some point, you have to stop asking:
“How can I fit in more clients?”
And start asking:
“How can I make the business I already have work better?”
Better pricing.
Better systems.
Better boundaries.
More value in each appointment.
Because I don't want to build a business that only works when I'm constantly behind the nail table.
I want to build one that works for me, too. 🤍
Being fully booked isn't the goal. Building a business that supports your life is.

One of my clients looked at her nails and said:
“You make my nails look AI-generated.” 😂
I didn't know whether to laugh or frame that compliment.
No AI over here though, just a ridiculous amount of attention to the little details. 🤍

A client paying you $70 does not mean you made $70.
This is something I wish more nail techs understood when setting their prices.
Your service price has to cover the cost of performing the service, the expenses of running the business, your time and still leave enough to actually pay you.
That's why looking at what another nail tech charges has never been a good pricing strategy.
Their numbers aren't your numbers.
If you've been choosing your prices based on what feels reasonable or what everyone around you charges, start with your own costs instead.

10 weeks of progress. 🤍
When this client first came to me on June 20, her toenails needed time not an instant “fix.”
Sometimes good nail care is knowing when not to force a perfect result.
The goal was to protect and support the natural nail while it continued to grow out.
And this is where we are 10 weeks later.
Healthy progress takes time!.
A client might look at the finished set and see pretty nails. 🤍
But as a nail tech, I’m looking at everything underneath the result.
Nail shape.
Cuticle condition.
Sidewalls.
Natural nail condition.
Structure.
Product placement.
Because good nail work doesn’t start with the product.
It starts with understanding what you’re working with.
That’s the difference between simply following steps and learning how to think like a nail tech.

One of the hardest lessons I had to learn as a nail tech was that being understanding doesn’t mean having no boundaries.
We care about our clients. We understand that life happens.
But this is also our business, our income, and our time.
You don’t need to feel guilty for having policies.
You don’t need to apologize every time you enforce them.
You can be kind and run your business professionally.
The right clients will respect both. 🤍
Nail techs: what boundary was the hardest for you to learn?
A clean manicure isn’t automatically a good manicure.
You can create a beautiful result and still over-file the natural nail, weaken the sidewalls, or remove more tissue than necessary trying to achieve that “perfect” cuticle.
Good technique isn’t about removing as much as possible.
It’s knowing what to remove, what to leave alone, and when to stop.
Because a “perfect” result is never worth damaging the natural nail.
Technique should protect the nail not sacrifice it for the photo.

I didn’t build a nail business because I wanted to work all day doing nails.
I built it because I wanted control over my time.
I wanted to do work I’m proud of, build something that belongs to me, and still be there for the ordinary little moments with my family.
That’s what success looks like to me.
And as I continue building Cahya beyond the nail table, that part will never change. 🤍
