At HGH, we believe every piece of granite tells a story.

And in this case, granite helped tell the story of a nation.

We were proud to work alongside DTAH and Orin Contractors on Dr. Lillian McGregor Park in Toronto, a few years ago, supplying the granite boulders and the four coloured granites used to create the park's Indigenous Medicine Wheel.

From the carefully selected colours of the Medicine Wheel to the natural granite boulders woven throughout the landscape, we chose every stone with care.

Carved and polished from solid granite boulders, the HGH team makes sure each piece retains its own unique character, natural movement, colour variation, and patterning.

💦 Every great water feature starts with finding the right stone.

And we're excited to be working with landscape architecture firm, The Planning Partnership, on an upcoming water feature project.

Neil and Kevin from team HGH recently met the designers at a local stone yard to select the granite boulders that will bring the water features to life.

One of the most interesting parts of the day was pouring water over the boulders to reveal the colours hidden within the granite.

Dry stone can look very different from stone that's continually wet, so it's an important step in the process.

Once the final boulders have been selected, HGH will prepare them for installation by cutting the bases, core drilling holes for the water supply, and carving basins to create the finished water feature.

This is one of those behind-the-scenes stages most people never see, but it's all part of ensuring the finished project looks exactly as the designers envisioned. Watch this space for more…

Our colleague Steven represented HGH at the annual Arbor Memorial Inc. Foundation Golf Tournament last month.

And he had a great day on the course.

The second pic shows the delicious dinner that rounded off a fantastic day.

With summer around the corner, it got us thinking about some of the water-focused public spaces we've been proud to contribute to over the years.

From the fountain at Berczy Park and the water features at Grange Park, to Waterloo Park, La Salle Civic Centre, and the reflecting pond at the Royal Botanical Gardens, each project has used granite in a slightly different way.

Whether it's framing fountains, edging reflecting pools, or defining key features within a landscape, granite plays an important role in these environments.

Water features place unique demands on materials, which is one of the reasons - ever hard-working and durable - granite continues to be a popular choice for landscape architects, designers, and municipalities.
