Winter’s coming… and your horse feels it too! 🥶❄️☃️

As the busy season winds down and the colder weather moves in, now is an ideal time to have your horse evaluated and worked on before winter sets in!

A combination of massage therapy and structural alignment can play a key role in maintaining your horse’s comfort and long term soundness through the colder months.

Now is also a great time to reassess your saddle fit!

Horses bodies change throughout the year, especially after a busy summer. They may lose or gain muscle, particularly through their topline and shoulders. A saddle that fit well in the spring might not fit the same way now, which can lead to pressure points, soreness, muscle atrophy, behavioural issues, and restricted movement.

A pre winter bodywork session will help to:

🐎Release tight, overworked muscles

🐎 Support joint mobility and range of motion

🐎Restore balance and alignment in the body

🐎Improve circulation and muscle elasticity

🐎Reduce the risk of stiffness, soreness, or injury over winter downtime

🐎Identify and correct changes that may affect saddle fit. We can make small adjustments to your saddle to improve the fit such as shimming or changing pads.

🐎Set the foundation for a smoother, more powerful start to next season

Lets help your horse enter the off season in a state of balance; allowing for proper rest, recovery, and maintenance of muscle health. Setting them up to feel their best come spring!

We lost a very special member of the Smooth Run family yesterday.

JDS Texas Tippin, affectionately known as “Google”, will always be known as the horse with the most heart to me. He was ridden, owned and loved dearly by my friend Carey Thiessen.

He was the sweetest horse you would ever meet, and always gave his all every single run! He was a joy to watch and be around, and always such a gentleman for me to work on. He certainly loved his treats that I would sneak him in our sessions. I’m very lucky to have met and loved Google, for if I would have never worked on him that hot sunny day in Medicine Hat years ago, I would have never met my best friend Carey.

Please send your love to Carey and her family and hug your horses a little tighter today❤️

Here’s your yearly PSA about loose salt Vs salt blocks!!

Did you know that salt blocks were designed for cattle? Cattle have rough washcloth type tongues like a cat. They can lick those blocks and get enough salt. Especially in a herd situation there are enough cows to actually USE up the blocks.

Did you know that horses have a smooth tongue? Much like a dog or even us! Horses on average need 2-3 tablespoons of salt daily for all the bodily functions that require salt!!

It would take a horse hours on a salt block to get enough. Many horses have actually learned to give up on the blocks and will ignore them. Never even trying to get enough salt. You know what getting a salt burn on your tongue feels like right???

So consider choosing loose salt for your equine buddies! It’s SUPER cheap! I was at TSC yesterday and priced a 50 lbs bag for less than $10!
