What does it mean to grow up with the ocean? While hitchhiking from Imsouane to Taghazout, I asked Sana if I could interview her.

We talked about growing up by the sea, discovering surfing, Moroccan beauty standards and being one of the few local women in the water.

I sponatenously hitchhiked to Taghazout to see a friend, she to get her wetsuit repaired. Somewhere along the road, I asked if I could interview her. We laughed like two people who had been friends forever.

cutting archives 🎞️ turning you into the main character of a 90s romcom

On a day when the ocean was flat, I cut my surf coach Hbeka’s curls on the rocks. Four girls watched us from above. When we were done, they slowly came down one by one and asked if I could cut theirs too.

It reminded me of something I had almost forgotten about hairdressing: it was never really about “just” hair.
