From 1 July 2026, new Anti-Money Laundering (AML) rules come into effect for conveyancers, lawyers, real estate professionals and others across Australia.

What this means for you: stronger ID verification (KYC), enhanced fraud protections, and more robust processes, all designed to keep the property market safe and transparent.

Big news for South Australians 60+ thinking about downsizing!

From 25 March 2026, you may qualify for full stamp duty relief when you sell your principal family home and buy a smaller replacement property in SA (up to $2 million for homes/apartments, $1.2 million for vacant land).

Key conditions include living in the new home for at least 6 months and other straightforward eligibility rules. This is a fantastic incentive to right-size your life without the usual stamp duty burden.

Planning your property investments for the long term?

The 2026 Federal Budget announced significant Capital Gains Tax changes starting 1 July 2027:
- The 50% CGT discount will be replaced by inflation-based cost base indexation
- Plus a 30% minimum tax on net capital gains for assets held more than 12 months
These changes apply to gains arising after 1 July 2027 (earlier gains are unaffected). Investors in new residential builds will have a choice of rules.
