Amazing design work by Barry Connor Design Ltd exploring how different cabin elements can be arranged across the site at a 1:100 scale. Using mirrored and flipped study models on-site is such a brilliant way to test configurations, sightlines, and layout options in real time.
Vulcan timber is great for bringing concepts like this to life. If anyone is looking for some 2mm thick Vulcan timber sheets for a project like this, give us a message!
Architectural Series vs Standard Series - What’s the difference?
Both series deliver the same high-performance, durability, thermal modification, engineered vertical grain, and Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) certification. Standard Series is offered across New Zealand and Australia alongside the Architectural Series, with your choice coming down to aesthetic character and project requirements:
Architectural Series (Select Grade):
Features a clear grade with limited natural features, ideal for projects where a largely clear, refined aesthetic is desired. Available in mixed or select lengths with brushed and bandsawn finish options.
Standard Series (Light Character Grade):
Offers a variable feature grade showcasing natural character like knots and resin pockets alongside clear lengths. Perfect for adding organic texture and natural warmth at an accessible price point.

What if timber could be transformed from the inside out?
That's the thinking behind Vaaro.
Made in New Zealand from Abodo's heat tempered timber, Vaaro undergoes a specialised resin-based treatment that is pressure-infused deep into the timber and cured to become a permanent part of its cellular structure.
The result is a feature timber that combines natural warmth and beauty with advanced fire performance, helping architects, builders, and homeowners achieve more with timber.
A new class of timber. Engineered for the future.
One of our favorites in Boulder, Colorado - Panorama House.
A masterclass in mid-century warmth and quiet drama. Designed by Mike Piché, it pairs expansive glass with the deep, tactile textures of our Vulcan Cladding in Protector Walnut and Nero - creating a home that feels less like a new build and yet also like it’s always belonged to these hills.

Heat Tempered Timber = Enhanced Performance
Heat tempering (also known as thermal modification) is a game-changer. It boosts the timber’s stability and lifespan, turning it into a stronger, more environmentally responsible building material.
Since the technology was first developed in the ‘90s, thermally modified wood has been growing in popularity, and for good reason.
