Not All Lavender Is the Same
Many people tell me,
“Lavender doesn’t help me sleep.”
But the real question is:
Which lavender did you use?
Because lavender is not just “lavender”.
There is True Lavender — Lavandula angustifolia — the soft, gentle lavender many aromatherapists reach for when we want calm, rest, emotional comfort and better sleep support.
Then there is Lavandin — Lavandula × intermedia — stronger, fresher and more clearing. It can be lovely for room freshness, tiredness, stuffy days and flu-season comfort, but it may not be the best bedtime choice for everyone.
There is also Spike Lavender — Lavandula latifolia — more camphoraceous, clearer and more stimulating. This is the lavender that may make some people feel more awake, not more sleepy.
Some lavender types are traditionally loved for relaxation.
Some are better known for clearing the breath.
Some are studied for skin repair and collagen-supportive wound-healing pathways.
Some simply have a brighter, sharper personality.
So when someone says,
“Lavender doesn’t work for me,”
maybe lavender did not fail them.
Maybe they were never given the right lavender in the first place.
This is also why Latin names matter. In the market, some higher-yielding lavender species or hybrids may be used because they produce more essential oil and are more economical to grow. They may still smell “lavender-like”, but their chemistry — and therefore their effect — can be very different.
A bottle that only says “Lavender Essential Oil” does not tell us enough.
For children, pregnancy, elderly people, asthma-prone individuals, or anyone with sensitive airways, this matters even more. The wrong lavender may be too stimulating, too sharp, or simply not suitable for the purpose.
Different lavenders, different personalities.
Choose the right lavender for the right moment.
As a start, I would not purchase any bottle that does not state the Latin name of lavender.

Feeling “heaty” doesn’t always mean your body needs more cooling.
Sometimes, the body feels hot on the surface because the warmth inside is stuck, not moving smoothly through the body. In TCM, this may relate to 虚寒 — deficient cold.
You may notice signs like:
Cold hands and feet, heavy body, tiredness, sluggish circulation, cold tummy, or feeling easily chilled — yet somehow still feeling “heaty”.
This is why simply drinking more cooling drinks or taking more cooling herbs may not always help. Sometimes, the body needs gentle Yang support — to warm, move, and rebalance.
Here are 5 simple DIY ways to build inner warmth:
☀️ Let gentle morning sun warm your back
🌬️ Use a hair dryer to warm the back, lower tummy or feet after bathing
🍵 Sip warm water throughout the day
🫚 For stronger coldness, take ginger water in the first half of the day
🧣 Keep your back, tummy and feet protected from cold wind and overcooling
Sung Series Yang Blend is created as a warming self-care blend to support meridian circulation, dispel cold-damp feeling, and bring the body back into balance.
Warm • Move • Rebalance

Move your feet. Lift your mood. 🌿
Cycling is wonderful for the heart, circulation, and fitness.
But when we talk about the bone–brain connection, walking has something special:
your feet touch the ground,
your body weight meets the earth,
and every repeated step gives your bones a gentle, healthy trigger.
Fast walking, slow jogging, stair climbing, and regular stepping create weight-bearing impact.
This tells the bones:
“Wake up. Build. Adapt.”
When the bones are stimulated, bone-building cells called osteoblasts become more active.
Research also suggests that active bone can release helpful messengers such as osteocalcin — a bone-derived signal being studied for its connection with the brain, mood, memory, and stress resilience.
So perhaps walking helps us feel better not only because we move, breathe, and clear the mind…
but also because the bones are speaking to the brain.
Bone is not silent.
It communicates.
Step. Breathe. Smile.
Educational sharing only. Not medical advice. Move safely and choose exercise that suits your body.
