“Preservative-free” sounds good on a label. But that’s not the question I ask in the lab.
I ask: what’s keeping this product safe from the first use to the last?
Because bacteria, mould and yeast don’t care about marketing claims. They care about whether the conditions allow them to grow.
Sometimes a product genuinely doesn’t need a preservative. Sometimes it absolutely does.
Good formulation is knowing the difference.
