• MoMo Vendor Killed in Armed Robbery Attack at Dominase Onion Market, Another Critically Injured

A mobile money (MoMo) vendor has been shot dead while another person is fighting for his life following a brutal armed robbery attack at the Gomoa Dominase Onion Market in the Gomoa East District of Ghana’s Central Region. The incident has left traders and residents shaken and renewed concerns about rising insecurity in the area.

According to eyewitnesses, the attack occurred on the evening of Saturday, June 6, when a group of heavily armed robbers stormed the busy market and opened fire. Witnesses reported that the assailants fired more than 20 rounds of ammunition as panic-stricken traders and shoppers scrambled for safety.

The robbers allegedly targeted the MoMo vendor, shooting him multiple times before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of money. An eyewitness, Yussif Mohammed, told Adom News that the victim sustained gunshot wounds to the stomach, neck, and back. The vendor died from his injuries.

Another victim who was caught in the attack suffered severe gunshot wounds and remains in critical condition. Reports indicate that the injured person is receiving medical treatment, while another victim was referred to the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba for further care.

Residents said the sound of gunfire initially caused confusion, with many believing police officers were conducting an operation nearby. This delayed efforts to assist the victims as people hesitated to approach the scene.

The shocking attack has sparked fear among traders and community members, many of whom are calling for increased security measures at the market and surrounding communities.

The Chairman of the Gomoa Potsin Neighbourhood Watch Committee, Ebo Anderson, has appealed to the Inspector-General of Police to provide additional logistics and resources to the local police command to strengthen security and combat crime in the area.

Police have launched investigations into the robbery and are working to identify and arrest the perpetrators. Meanwhile, residents are urging authorities to act swiftly to prevent further attacks and restore confidence in the safety of the community.
