We have the benefit of knowing that high school ends.

They don’t have the benefit of having lived through it yet.

Friendships, rejection, bullying, embarrassment, relationships, grades, sports, social media and belonging can feel enormous when you’re still figuring out who you are.

We don’t have to agree that something is a “big deal” to recognize that it feels like a big deal to them.

Sometimes the most helpful response isn’t “You’ll get over it.”

It’s:

“That sounds really hard. Tell me what’s been going on.” 🤍
